Just say no to ruining marriage

Marriage is holy.

At the top of alot of LJs recently are a table with a rainbow and the quote "marriage is love", meant to represent the pro-homosexual marriage stance, and somehow state that people who disagree don't believe in either marriage or love. It is because of the belief that marriage is love (between a man, a woman, and God) that people are against gay marriage!

If you disagree with people who want to trash this holy union, post the little tidbit of code below in your lj. It will show the same bar as the gay marriage icon, but with just pink and blue colors to represent a heterosexual relationship. It will link back here when people click it so they can add the same thing to their lj.

</br></br>
<center><table width="50%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0"><tr><td width="50%" bgcolor="pink">&nbsp;</td><td width="50%" bgcolor="blue">&nbsp;</td></tr><tr><td colspan="6" align="center"><a href="http://www.livejournal.com/users/shocksrage/9243.html">Marriage is holy.</a></td></tr></table></center>

</br>

Yes. I think that if equal access to civil rights were granted to all citizens, irrespective of married status, then this issue becomes one of religious freedom and not of equal access for all citizens.

Marriage is shit

Let me 'splain. I have no problem with marriage as a social structure. I don't think people shouldn't be allowed to get married- that's dumb.

I think that the government should have no power to sanction marriage. It's not the government's business. Period. Marriage, if it's holy, belongs in the realm of the church. Since it does have religious trappings, the government should avoid it like the plague.

No, instead, we should replace it with something that works, is scalable, non-discriminatory, and allows for the growth of experimental family structures, like communes, poly-relationships, etc.

Which is why I am against this "same-sex marriage" push. It's none of the government's damn business, and fuck all those people in San Francisico for thinking that having the government recognize them is a good thing.

I think that couples who are in a "common-law"(meaning they have lived together for 5 years) union should be able to get family insurance coverage like married couples do now. There should still be programs to help struggling family units. But I agree that marriage should be something purely religious. If people want to celebrate their relationships in that way, it is their choice. I don't think the government should play a part in defining who can love whom among consenting adults. The whole marriage "license" thing is baffling to me.

With as many divorcee's as there are raising children single-handedly, I don't think there is really a valid argument against homosexual relationships. The only one I ever would have considered is welfare of the children. But I don't think that having two dads or two moms is any more harmful than having just one parent. Even heterosexual couples manage to screw up their kids.

Just because something makes some people uncomfortable doesn't mean we should all suffer to coddle them.

sorry, marriage in the eyes of legality has nothing to do with love.
all legal marriages should be classified as "civil unions," and the church should handle their oh-so-holy marriage.
that guarantees that all unions are protected under the law.

How good is it that someone FINALLY is standing up for good old heterosexual marriage?! I mean, it's a SACRED institution, right? Like, you HAVE to get married in a church of GOD (and I mean the good old American GOD, not those pagan third world gods like them Muslims and Jews worship!) Right? Because marriage is a SACRED INSTITUTION.

Oh wait. You don't even have to believe in the GOOD LORD JESUS CHRIST AS SAVIOR to get hitched around here? It's something you could do at City Hall, like renewing your boat license or paying your property taxes? The city doesn't dictate what your sexual orientation is to pay property taxes (because queer money is just fine under capitalism, it's that damn QUEER LOVE that's not).

Anyway, my little Young Republican friend - keep up the good work. Perhaps while you're at it you shouldn't take advantage of such socialist institutions such as state colleges.

Interesting response and I support your right to say things like this freely.

I was fairly certain "marriage" was a religious term, but it looks like the dictionaries have been updated to define it in a non-religious sense. So looks like this is inaccurate according to the dictionary, but probably accurate for people who use the religious definition.

Anywho, the gov't needs to get out of the marriage business.

Seems like the government is always poking it's nose where it doesn't belong. I think it's way past time the homo-phobic pricks get over their insecurities and leave homosexuals alone. "Live and let Live", sorta. I have three homosexual friends (male) and I'm heterosexual (male). I, unlike many others, am secure enough in my own sexuality to not discriminate against another person just because they wanna be with someone else of the same sex; Their love life is their business, not any one else's. Am I right, or am I right? :D

...Just a side note...have any of you noticed how the vast majority of homophobics are christian/racist (Nazi's, KKK, etc) as well? I've not met one Pagan/Heathen that's a homophobe... o.O

If marriage is a religious sacrament, why do I need to go to a civil authority to get a license to marry? Why do civil benefits - not religious benefits - come with that marriage? Why are legal - not religious - rights bestowed upon my spouse?

Marriage is a civil union that may or may not be blessed by a religious authority, according to the preference of the parties involved. Why should I not be able to marry another human being, that I love and am committed to in every way, just because they are the same gender?
